Common types and causes
Your ear and hearing can be significantly damaged in a number of different ways. The most common types of causes are:
- Exposure to loud noise (e.g. over time, due to sudden impact noise, or lack of protective equipment)
- Road traffic accidents
- Head injuries
- Sport injuries (e.g. severe injuries due to poor health and safety, either from sporting officials or sporting facilities)
- Farming injuries (e.g. injuries from animals, or defective farming equipment)
- Explosions (e.g. sudden impact noise or shrapnel from such explosions)
Your ears are not just essential to your hearing, they’re also there to help you balance. Accidents that cause damage to this area could mean your ability to walk, drive, and carry out everyday tasks are hugely affected.
Hearing problems can develop over time, which can often make it difficult to diagnose at first or to establish the full affects.
These issues can include:
- Tinnitus (buzzing, ringing or humming in your ears)
- Complete loss of hearing
- Difficulty in focusing on the TV or conversations
Injuries to your ears or hearing as a result of an accident, occupational or industrial disease can have lasting affects. If you’ve been injured in such a manner then don’t continue to suffer alone.
